Facilitated by: Jan Gourley (she/her), RECE (with background support from Sara Gill (she/her) - Executive Director, Adult Basic Education Association) Do you: Send emails to families and community partners on behalf of your program? Use written materials to advertise your services? Communicate with other professionals in writing? Create newsletters, calendars, brochures, applications or websites? Want your information to be understood by as many people as possible? If you answered “yes!” to any of these questions, then Professional Learning in Clear Writing is for you! This session will help you create effective written materials by exploring: How to make your messages clear by choosing the right words How to use graphics and layout to make your written materials easier to read How to design written materials for people with low literacy, people whose first language isn’t English and people who are busy! By the end of the workshop, you will have several new ideas on how to communicate successfully through written material. Jan Gourley (She/Her) is a Registered Early Childhood Educator. She has worked in a wide variety of capacities in the early years field from running a home childcare business, to almost every position within local childcare centres, to working as a DECE for a school board. Jan also has previous experience providing technical support, as well as in management roles in other fields of work. Jan has also worked for Literacy Link South Central (LLSC) and Fanshawe College Access Studies where she discovered her passion for helping adult learners further develop the literacy and workplace skills they need to skyrocket their careers. Jan believes in the importance of being a lifelong learner and maintaining a growth mindset… she is always encouraging herself and everyone she works with to recognize that they may not know something, but they just don’t know it yet!
