The Hannaford Street Silver Band joins with Amadeus Choir for a deeply moving evening of contemporary music exploring remembrance, identity, grief, and hope. At the heart of the program is Requiem for a Charred Skull, the extraordinary large-scale work by celebrated Canadian composer and conductor Bramwell Tovey. Written in response to the tragic loss of cultural heritage during the Bosnian War, the work combines immense emotional power with moments of profound tenderness, creating a gripping musical meditation on humanity's capacity for both destruction and resilience. The program also features Gi-Giwe Na? (Are you going home?) by Barbara Assiginaak, a poignant and evocative work that contemplates belonging, memory, and connection to home from an Indigenous perspective. Additional works include Exultations by acclaimed composer Reena Esmail, whose music bridges Western and Indian classical traditions with luminous colour and rhythmic vitality.
